Australian Sailing
Adventures
We've devised our
Australian Sailing Adventures for the midweek
tourist market - although locals with time on
their hands are more than welcome too!
We tackle Yachting Australia's inshore courses
- from the Introductory to Inshore Skipper in
10 days. We've scheduled extra hours and
spice to compensate for the fast track nature
of the program - more social sailing,
Wednesday arvo racing and visits to Sydney
Harbour yachtie hotspots.

Bavaria Match 42 NEW FLEET
ADDITION
The Bavaria Match class of
yachts is taking Sydney sailing scene by storm.
Much as the Sydney 38 did some 3 years ago.
So it is with wide open arms we welcome the NEW
Cuckoo's Nest - the Bavaria Match 42.
We wave bye-bye to the old Sydney 38 "Cuckoos
Nest" as she glides off to newer pastures.
Principal Chris Matthews is
looking forward to campaigning the Manly Friday
night series on the Match 42. "We had a
fantastic season on the Sydney 38 last year, but
no real competition so we were always the heroes.
This season we can pit ourselves directly against
Manly's Bavaria 42 - I hope they are looking
forward to it as much as we are!"
For more details on the Bavaria Match series of
yachts visit their website at

Thanks to
Boat Books
Australia for this fabulous prize.
This month's competition is
nothing if not topical.

distance from the shore below the lighthouse and
Bull Rock at ALT?
2. What lights would
you see approaching Bull Rock at night?
3. List other dangers
you might encounter in this area (minimum 3)?
All correct answers (all 3) will
go into the SimplySailing cap and the winner will be
drawn at 5pm on 31 October 2004. Let's get
navigating!

Hatch & Match?
Frequent sightings now over rule
coincidence in this pairing of two of last
season's twilight crew. Our
Spin Sheet lips are sealed... but take
your risk on romance this summer and book
your berth now on one of our Yellow Jersey
Twilight Challenge yachts....
John
Fretwell was one of our most notorious
course junkies, graduating to the helm of
"the Choc" on Wednesdays after just 6
months. After being billeted
back to the UK by work we're delighted to
see that those chillier climes haven't
dented his sailing bug. Here
we catch up on John's nautical adventures
in the south of England:
"It's
official, I've
finally taken the plunge and will be a
yacht owner at last.
We're
making a very specific assault on the East
Coast Haven Ports series for 2005
(not exciting
just cold) and then Cowes week August
2005. She is a
Beneteau 25 now known as "Mid Life
Crisis". Not quite
the Choc but not dissimilar in
terms of size (but when does that ever
matter);
it's more of an Adams on steroids, at last
I'll beat the J24's.
I'm not sure that Suffolk sailing is ready
for boardies and eskies
but someone's
got to take a stance!"
Whilst the Australian Sailing Team
didn't leave Athens with a swag of
sailing medals to rival the Sydney
Games, this talented bunch still did
us proud. Anthony Nossiter
knotched up a 6th in the Finn class
(Single Handed Men's Dinghy) - a
massive improvement on the Sydney
Games. His 1st in Race 7
put him within a heartbeat of the
medals. Picking the right side
of the turf is not easy in unfamiliar
waters. Consistency is the
key to Olympic sailing competition and
Great Britain's Ben Ainslie was
clearly not ready to relinquish his
grip, winning his third gold.

nautical adventures and up to date
results of the Australian Sailing Team

Olympics at
