Marine Life - Hood
Sailmakers
Every
boat needs the right wardrobe, and weren't not
talking about fashion here! But then again the
goods coming out of the Hoods loft have been
described as slinky, sexy and state of the art!
Hoods
is a veritable icon in Sydney's
sail making circles and was the first sail
loft outside of the USA to be granted a franchise in
1968 by the founder Ted Hood.
A great product combined with flexibility and
customer service means that Hoods is on the top of
our sail making reference list. Check out the
Hoods website
to learn more about what goes on at their loft on
the Northern Beaches.

Student
Spotlight
Congratulations to our two newest boat owners!
Student Gill Whitton may only have just finished his inshore
skipper certificate, but already he is the proud owner of a
Sydney to Hobart winner. "Torpan International" is a
racy Northshore 38X (formerly known as "Balmain
Experience"). Catch Gill and his crew around the Manly
Yacht Club race track! Lucy Thompson was one of
our regulars on the Chocolate Eclare Friday night crew.
As soon as the twilight season was over the withdrawal
symptons kicked in and Lucy bought the similar Cole 23, and
is now a cruisy Pittwater sailor.
If you are
considering purchasing a yacht but are fazed by what's on
offer, why not discuss your options with Principal Chris
Matthews. Chris has a wealth of experience and can
help you weave your way through the maze.
New Beach Cafe
opens at the Spit Bridge
Check out the
new Mustang Beach Cafe before your next Simply Sailing class
or charter. This cosy take away outfit is
positioned in Ferguson's Boat Shed on the northern side of
the Spit Bridge - a short stroll (left) along the beach from
the Skiffies. Great coffee and hot
chocs, plus yummy snacks are available - and we have found
them to be just the fuel up you need before hitting the
water.
Frequent Dining Offer at the Skiffies
Buy 5
get your 6th for free! Simply Sailing folkl
know all about that fresh, tasty and reasonably priced
tucker at the Skiffies Char Grill. New chef Jason
has been sending out some sublime seafood concoctions in
recent weeks. Grab a

you purchase a meal at the Skiffies your Frequent Dining
Card will be stamped - your
sixth meal will be free! (This card is not to

Winter Competition

1 What is a
"scratch boat"?
2. Where precisely is
Middle Percy Island (long and lat)?
3. Which set of tell
tales do you read on a reach?
Answer these correctly to
be in the running to win a fabulous sailing
bag from those sail making experts at Hoods.
Competition closes at 5pm on 30 August 2004.
Chef's Challenge
This month we throw down the gauntlet to all
you budding chefs. Our
Whitsunday Weavings crew are in need of some
recipes on their trips north and south on
the Sydney 38 racing yacht. This
is quite a challenge as the facilities are
restricted to 2 small burners, 2 small
saucepans, 1 small frypan and 1 small eskie.
On some days we will be sailing around the
clock and the seas may not be calm.
The judging criteria is taste, suitability
for offshore preparation, cost and
fillingness. The crew will be your
judge and both north and southbound crews
will be judging. Most popular
recipe writer wins a copy of "Open Kitchen"
by Bill Granger.
