Testimonial: per Henry
Harding:
"I would like
to thank Chris for the Safety and Survival at Sea Course.
It was informative because he added his significant personal
experience to the theory classes, which resulted in a very
practical course. I had done many miles offshore
before the course, not realising how little I knew about
survival. Chris has increased my knowledge and
confidence to deal with the extreme conditions we hope to
never face. I would recommend this course
conducted by Chris Matthews to anybody going offshore."

Revalidation
course
The SSSC is
valid for 5 years. You may opt for the 1 day
revalidation course but prior to the expiry of your
course. Yachting Australia has issued certain criteria
with which you must comply prior to registering for the
revalidation course.
The following must be
available for production prior to enrolment:
-
A current Sea Safety
Certificate (not an expired one!)
-
A validated personal log book
showing:
-
at least 2500 offshore
nautical miles in the previous five years,
-
OR 5 Category One races
-
OR 8 Category Two races.
Yachting Australia has
determined that if you don’t meet the above sea miles you will
have to redo the full two day course. If you obtained your
certificate initially by the RPL process and you don’t meet
the above sea experience criteria, you must do the full
course.
Your log book is required to be
validated by the yacht owner or skipper. If the miles are
gained through racing it is expected that Race Crew Lists will
support the log book entries. Log books will need to be
submitted prior to enrolment.
The duration of the
revalidation course is eight hours and consists of
workshop sessions covering:
-
safety management procedures for small craft
(standard operating procedures);
-
management of Emergencies (Emergency
Procedures);
-
emergency Communications (GMDSS update);
-
yacht Safety Equipment (what works and what
doesn’t);
-
ISAF Special Equipment
Regulations 2005-8 (Equipment required);
-
practical Flare Drill;
-
launch, enter, re-right
and survive in a life raft (ten
competencies);
-
practical
use of personal survival equipment
such as harnesses,
tethers, PFD1s,
strobes, EPIRBs, SARTs, mini flares and TPAs.
