Our Charter
Boats
We offer a
Scanyacht 391 for bareboat or small group skippered charter
and have a range of others yachts
which we can source for your charter –
generally to suit every occasion,
person and agenda. These yachts are also
known as "commercially surveyed" yachts.
We are happy to help you choose
the most appropriate yacht for your function, be it a small
bareboat or a team building regatta. Just ask us! We are able
to arrange an inspection of any of our yachts for you at our
marina base in Clontarf.
On deck you will find generous
cockpits and ample rear seating so that you can fully take
advantage of the Australian weather. Down below the
layouts are designed to maximise space and utility.
The cruising yachts are set up
with furling sails and 'deepback' seating and all are an
absolute pleasure to sail - for both the avid yachtsman or
woman, or the more relaxed “social sailor”.
At Simply Sailing we try to fit
the yacht to the client and their needs.

Teaching Vessels
We have specifically chosen our S80
teaching vessel for its relevance to the courses we have
chosen to adopt and teach. We have specifically
excluded teaching the Introductory and Competent Crew
courses on commercially surveyed yachts (also known as charter
yachts), which are favoured by some other teaching
establishments, as it is our firm view that they are too big
and have insufficient maneuverability for quality training
(especially important in the busy port of Sydney Harbour).
With our S80 all controls are to hand - yours or the
instructors - which makes for extremely safe sailing!
Some safety
facts. The S80 is a very safe and very stable yacht
and our class size is small to further minimise risks (sailing
is risky just as crossing the road is risky). The S80 is
also used exclusively for teaching - bareboat chartering of
this yacht does not occur, thus every time the is in use she
is manned by a fully qualified instructor. This means we
are fully aware of all use of the yacht. Conversely, a
charter yacht utilised for both teaching and bareboat
chartering cannot be accounted for 100% of the time...
Yachting
Australia and NSW Maritime. Our yachts are
registered with both Yachting Australia and the NSW Maritime
and comply 100% with all the requirements laid down by those
bodies. As required by these bodies, each year the
S80 is slipped at a marina so that a fully qualified marine
surveyor can inspect the hull, keel and rudder - the
structural components of the yacht. A charter vessel
undergoes this inspection only once every two years.
We love the tiller! We teach the basics on a tiller
- it attaches to the rudder of the yacht and controls
the movement of the yacht. You can feel the boat turn by
moving the tiller and it is important to grasp this principle
early on, as sailing is all about feeling. If you
learn to sail on a wheel (a charter boat)
it is very
difficult to then move to a tiller
with comfort - on the other hand anyone can steer a
boat with a wheel - it's a bit like driving a car.
At Simply Sailing we are teaching you to go
sailing! Always ask the type and size of vessel,
and whether wheel or tiller steered.
